The Secretariat brings together stakeholders from the demand and supply side committed to bridging the skills gaps. The Secretariat’s role is to boost the Commission’s program through a strategy for reducing the skills gap in Europe through actions in five core areas:
- ICT & Training – promoting Europe-wide student placement programs with ICT employers;
- Mobility – helping get trained people in one part of Europe placed into vacant jobs elsewhere in the EU;
- Certification – strengthening ICT professionalism and fostering recognition of ICT-related qualifications across EU member states;
- Awareness-raising – raising awareness of the Grand Coalition for Digital jobs;
- New forms of ICT education – promoting the supply side for ICT jobs creation through more aligned educational schemes and stimulating structural change in educational systems.
The Secretariat focuses on action and local implementation. It aims at amplifying successful local and national programs and initiatives and seeks to export these to other parts of Europe. Some of the major activities ECWT led and was involved in related to the DIGITAL JOBS project and the work of the Secretariat of the Grand Coalition:
2015
- Girls/Day is also in April 2015 the major event for demonstrating girls interest for future tech careers all around Euro. Only in Germany 103.000 girls participated in 9500 events and involved 348 network and local partnerships to organize the events. More than 3,500 detailed reports in print, 5,400 online media products, more than 250 television and 200 radio articles about the Girls’Day were counted. The web-site visit of www.girls-day.de is up to 12.5 million by the month (more than 525.000 visits).
- ECWT is together with its German National Point of Contact Kompetenzzentrum the German coorganizer of Girls/Day preparing a European level workshop at the 1st European Celebration of Women in Engineering the 25-26 April 2016 in Brussels for co-branding Girls/Day as from 2017 in: Austria, Belgium, Bosnia Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, France, Hungary, Italy, Kosovo, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Macedonia, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland, Norway, Slovenia, Sweden and Liechtenstein.
- European Schoolnet, IVSZ and ECWT were organizing also a European level workshop on Computer Science Education in Eastern Europe, 17 September in Hungary.
- ECWT is involved in several LLL and ERASMUS+ projects focusing on career mobility of some specifically targeted groups: e.g. women, older workforce and migrants through the WeHubS, diga, CaMEO and igma2 projects (see EU Projects)
- ECWT Secretariat and some of the National Point of Contacts were involved in the preparations of the ICT Mobility conference of the DIGITALJOBS project in Spain the 20th November 2015.
2014
- ECWT contributed to the two Reports of the Secretariat on the ICT EU Labour Market and the ICT Labour Mobility Initiatives.
- ECWT is together with its German National Point of Contact Kompetenzzentrum the German coorganizer of Girls/Day preparing a European level workshop at the 1st European Celebration of Women in Engineering the 9-10 December in Brussels for co-branding Girls/Day as from 2016 in: in Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Austria, Czech Republic, Belgium, Kosovo, Poland, Spain, Italy, France, Switzerland, Hungary, Norway, Estonia, Slovenia, and Liechtenstein. Cross-border activities are conducted together with Austria, Luxembourg, Belgium, Poland, the Czech Republic, and Switzerland.
- European Schoolnet and ECWT will be organizing also a European level workshop at ECWC 2015 in December in Brussels summarizing the outcomes of 4 regional workshops on the state of the art in Computer Science Education in Europe.
- ECWT is involved in several LLL and ERASMUS+ projects focusing on career mobility of some specifically targeted groups: e.g. women, older workforce and migrants through the WeHubS, diga, CaMEO, and igma2 projects (see below).
- ECWT National Point of contacts help to prepare the planned mobility conference of the DIGITAL JOBS project in Spain in November.
