GREEK MINISTRY OF LABOUR AND ECWT ANNOUNCEMENT ON GREEK INNOVATION LAB FOR WOMEN – #GIL4W 16TH APRIL 2021
On Friday, 16th of April 2021 the Deputy Minister of Labour and Social Affairs, Mrs Maria Syregela and the European Centre of Women and Technology, have in Athens together announced the launch of the Greek Innovation Lab for Women – #GIL4W. The alliance constituted for implementing this bold plan includes 5 Ministries, Enterprise Greece, the European Centre of Women and Technology – ECWT, 3 Universities, 5 Research Centers, Google, Oracle, Microsoft, Cisco and 2 Social Partners (including the American-Hellenic Chamber of Commerce).
The new innovation lab will:
- link the entire EU package for innovation: EIC, the Digital Innovation Hubs, Digital Investment Plan for Europe, EU Green Deal, and the Post- Covid Recovery Plan;
- incorporate the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development Goals and the UN Wome´s Innovation Strategy and
- build on a transfer of knowledge of the Norwegian model for innovation clusters under the leadership of the Norway based European Centre for Women and Technology – ECWT.
The goals of #GIL4W are:
- To design and implement innovative actions to enhance the attraction of more women to study in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) and to increase the participation of women in STEM careers
- To create a platform for women´s innovative tech start-ups and support of women´s growth enterprises
- Monitoring, evaluating, and improving the impact of gender-based policies in digital transformation, innovation, and entrepreneurship.
#GIL4W activities will rest on four pillars: CONNECT – COLLABORATE – GROW – IMPACT. On Friday´s inaugural meeting representatives of the following organizations expressed their commitment and support to #GIL4W:
