The National Point of Contact of ECWT in the Netherlands

VHTO, the National Point of Contact of ECWT in the Netherlands, has between 2008-2018 established itself as the leading expert organization on gender & STEM in the Netherlands. The number of pupils in pre-university (of applied sciences) secondary education who opt for a natural science & technology subject cluster has increased significantly. In pre-VET education, however, 46% of boys choose for a technology sector, compared to only 6% of girls.

VHTO has established the annual Girls Day brand in the last ten years so that in 2016, more than 10.000 girls participated in Girls day. Through the ‘DigiVita’ project – together with female IT professionals, female students, and CIOs, VHTO collaborates to increase the number of girls/women in IT-study programs and professions by organizing coding events, Summer Camp for girls from 8 to 18 years old or Programming Pizza Party for parents.

VHTO provides furthermore role models and runs mentoring circles for STEM Students. In 2015 VHTO won the Digital Impact Award Organizations awarded by the DLII, ECWT, EUN, DIGITALEUROPE, and CEPIS.
